Sgt. Maj. Iron Mike Mervosh stands with Sergeant Mike Tabor on top of Mount Suribachi overlooking the black sands of Iwo Jima. Mervosh served on Iwo Jima 67 years earlier as well as through much of the Pacific and Korea and Vietnam. Tabor served a tour in Afghanistan where he received the Purple Heart for wounds received during combat. In March 2012 Mervosh and Tabor joined other WWII Marines and students from The Ohio State University on a TGGF Connecting Generations program that took them to the beaches and battlefields of Guam, Iwo Jima, Saipan and Tinian.
